Aston Villa - #21 Deloitte Football Global Money League
« on: January 19, 2023, 12:48:22 PM »
Surprised we are behind Leeds and Everton, but heading in the right direction. Would expect us to crack the Top 20 for the 2022/23 season. The gap between the top and the lower levels is scary.

The story is also on the BBC website

We'd be top 20 if we could sort out the half time refreshments.

It's odd... We have been in the PL longer than them, have higher attendances, higher transfer revenue... weird.

Is it to do with the 49ers link? (Just a thought).

Possibly bigger debts, and much higher wage liabilities?
Even the Deloittes (i think) spokesman on Radio 5 this morning suggested that valuing football clubs was very much an art, and very subjective.

We don't have any debts. And no interest payments. We have £500m in the club accounts. There is no way we are worth less that Leeds Utd... They are simply wrong...

I thought it was based on income, not including transfers. So basically TV money, match day income, commercial income.

I only read the report briefly, but it looks like it's based on revenue, so debts, interest payments, cash, etc. have no impact on where a club is ranked.

I don’t need a Deloitte report to tell me our owners are minted and they have supported our club from the moment they arrived. That’s all that matters.

The report indicates we were only £1.4m behind 20th-placed Newcastle. Given they have a 50k-seater stadium I hope we do a better job of generating income from the extra seats when we expand VP.
