Aston Villa: Big Book of the 80s
« on: January 06, 2023, 04:51:17 PM »
Colin Abbott has written/compiled his third weighty Villa tome after his Big Book of the 70s and Aston Villa The First 150 years. (He's also written other Villa historical books - but these are the mega hardback ones).

Has anyone read this/these and can they recommend? They look lovely from glancing at the covers on websites selling them and I'm sure they contain a lot of great photographs. But do they get bogged-down in stats and encyclopaedic entries or is there great writing/anecdotes too?

I know Mr Woodhall has covered the 80s a lot in his various writing but there probably is an interesting tale from front to cover in one volume to be told about a decade book-ended with Villa being the best team in the country and the traumatic years in between. Every good story has peaks, troughs and redemptions though, right?
