On paper this looks like the weakest Spurs team for a good few years. Just can’t see us keeping them out without a competent goalkeeper.

Emery seems to already have his favourites, like the previous two managers did. Why can't these managers have favourites who are actually good players.

That goalkeeper behind that defence. Sigh.

Oh well, I'll save myself two hours and not bother watching.

But Up The Villa, and let's smash them

Fucking idiot Emery.

A manager with a CV to compare with the best in the world but the moaners are out for him 5 games into his villa career.

My hope and guess is both Emi and Cash will be starting in two days versus Wolves. This is just a theory, but given he’s new to the club and he got a good look at all of the other players for an extended period while we had three players at the WC, he might just be easing those absent players back in. The performance versus Liverpool wasn’t bad but we clearly lacked quality in key areas. I don’t think Emery is so stupid to think that Olsen or Young are better than Martinez or Cash long term.

Why is always at Villa that we make it a crises from a drama? Seems to me that there’s more to this than meets the eye. No doubt we will see in the coming days but, I for one, am not impressed.

That is a very poor decision re: the goalkeeper.
I know Emery is the boss, but this looks like an effort to prove it.

Seemed pretty clear to me in Unai’s pre match interview why Olsen should start. He basically said Olsen now knows what is expected of a goalkeeper in his team whereas Emi has not been trained into the new role yet

The world cup winning keeper is not qualified to play for Emery?

That’s not what I said.  You know how Emery likes detailed patterns of play and Olsen has been party to those sessions whereas Martinez will not have a clue on things like our plan to beat a press - yet….

I appreciate you just relayed your understanding of what you heard. The implications of that is what worries me.

It does me too! Somebody is seeing more in Olsen than we are

It really looked like Olsen had got to grips with our ‘style of play’ against Liverpool. FFS. Why are managers such divs at times?

Hardly. He has made a strange decision though.

But they still have Son and Kane, more than enough to beat our back 4

What about Dendoncker, I like him
I like you but I would not want you playing at Spurs today.

What if Astnor was to offer to play in goal?

It’s very strange but quite simple - under no circumstances (attitude problems, lack of training time, character clash etc etc), under NO circumstances, should a fit Olsen be chosen over a fit Martinez. There is no excuse for it I can imagine. And we will concede a hatful.

It's a revolutionary 0-4-5-1 line-up.

Our bench is stronger then theirs, disappointed that Martinez hasn’t started but you’ve just got to trust Unai.

Our ability to keep the ball out of the net is a collective exercise. It helps if the bloke in net is one of the very best around. But it will also be critical for the forwards and midfield to keep it away from our back 4, and for our back 4 not to capitulate every time the Spurs forwards attack. That’s the bit I’m worried about as much as the keeper.
