Another one from the Russell vaults.

I wasn't there and hadn't thought about those games for about 32 years.

IIRC - Under Dr Jo the manager of the month award was followed by defeat in San Siro and a downward spiral

Sort of related, I vaguely remember a 6 a side tournament held at Wembley when I was little.  Was that for the football league centenary and does anyone have any more info on that?

That was my first visit to Wembley, going on the official Villa coach and stayed the Friday night after the Arsenal game in the Majestic hotel near Harrod’s which was part of the package. I remember little about the football but clearly recall the chant ‘I’d rather be a sausage than an egg’!!

I went to one of the games, but it was so unforgettable that I can't remember if it was the Friday or the Saturday game. If I remember correctly only one side of Wembley was open.

Just realised that I said it was unforgettable, when I should have said totally forgettable.

I attended the Saturday game, the whole occasion surely was a non- event. There couldn't have been more than a few hundred Villa fans there.

We travelled for both, and I remember we adopted Gianluca Vialli as one of our own for the final between Sampdoria and Arsenal, singing to him all game. Was pissed off when he signed for Chelsea, the ungrateful bastard.
