Great news, although a tad surprised it's only a 2 year extension.

Fingers crossed it isn't something we have to deal with for a long time but with how the club seems to built around Unai I do hope we have contingency plans just in case, rather than we're left in a complete mess.

A link was posted a few pages back stating that Villa intend to sit down with Unai this summer and extend his contract even further. I guess this extension was just to keep the Wolves away from the door.
Why, was he linked with them too?

I wonder if this one year extention has been announced before they announce the season ticket prices? Just a thought, albeit a cynical one.

Going to look at prolonging it further in the Summer. According to Ornstein.

Excellent.

This is great news, and very reassuring around investment plans, stadium development etc. I doubt he’d have extended if Bayern etc were interested without really buying in to what can be achieved here.

I can’t see anything official. Are the ‘sources’ copying each other?

SSN & BBC Sport are reporting it? David Ornstein from the Athletic first broke the story - he's usually spot on.

Seen a few places talk about 'Emery extending contract', but really it just sounds like the club have taken up an option to extend his existing contract? Which I'm guessing they can do unilaterally.  Nothing wrong with that, but it's a bit different to him sitting down and committing to another long term contract.

Quote from Tanswell is 'this is, unquestionably, a huge boost for Villa.' Don't think he'd be writing that if it were simply some imposed contract option.

Furthermore - all the power and such we've given him is 'why it was always unlikely he would be tempted by reported interest in him this summer.' I think Unai staying is a very known thing among the pundits.

That was my thought too: they're certainly delaying the new prices this season!  ;)
