Roy MacLaren RIP
«
on:

Roy MacLaren has died aged 92, played a huge part, in the most successful period in our history, as Sir Ron's right hand man, when we won the title and then with Tony Barton, when he took over.
RIP Roy

RIP. I always wondered why Tony Barton became manager when Roy MacLaren would have seemed to be above him in the pecking order. Regardless, he could always say he played his part in the greatest achievement in our history.

Sad news indeed. He deserves his place in our hall of fame for those two magical seasons. RIP Roy.

Very sad news, a permanent presence in our glory years. Why is this in off topic?

Sad to hear about another respected name from my childhood. I don't recall him saying much but in my mind I always pictured him wearing his claret tracksuit with blue trim.

Had a good chat with him at the European cup 25th anniversary. Great man and very easy to talk to about anything. Good stories too, wish I could remember them all.

An underrated part of the team but a vital cog in the wheel. Thank you Roy.

Very sad news. I shed a tear today when I heard this. Not sure why, maybe because too many from our greatest era are falling now.
RIP Roy, you played a great part in our history.

Sad news.
I remember Roy's profile being raised slightly when he took the team to Sunderland as Ron was too ill to travel.
We won 2-1 which kept us on Ipswich's coat-tails.

This, all day long. It appears according to his grandson, to his last breath he still loved the Villa.
I'm a bit disappointed with the OS announcement but then they couldn't even wish him a happy birthday on his actual birthday; February 12th not January 25th.
RIP Roy and thank you.
