It wasn’t sensational but I didn’t think it was as bad as people are making out. We were comfortably the better side. Southampton were really poor.

As for it being one of the worst top flight games ever, I can only assume people saying that never saw Wimbledon play, or Stoke under Pulis.
You are a true gentleman and kind one at that.

It says something about the game when the highlight of the evening was the minutes silence, well done Villa for that, it was pretty moving.

We were shit, they were even shitter. SG got the result the team was set up to get but it was turgid fare.

We’ve probably the best bunch of attacking players Ive ever seen in a Villa squad, who created nothing, we need to see more entertainment in our home games.

The queue to see the coffin is going all the way down Southbank where I'm texting this from.

How long do you think it will take you to get to the front?

Poor game, but a win’s a win. At least my weekend hasn’t been ruined, for a change. Up the Villa.

Kinda wish I was somewhere that this news hasn't reached, the wilds of Leitrim maybe.

Went to see the enjoyable if overblown Moonage Daydream at the Imax. Only found out the result when I was having a slash in the jacks after. Sounds like the game was the opposite of overblown and enjoyable.

The queue to see the coffin is going all the way down Southbank where I'm texting this from.

Remember when you get to Westminster Hall you can go down either wing.

Hope it goes well. And you can stay warm.

Horrendous last 24 hours as had to say goodbye to our beautiful dog. We’ll play a lot better and lose so just happy with the win. Small steps to building confidence.

Good to see Phil starting to get back at it.

Even McGinn knew how awful it was and he was playing.

Mings is keeping Gerrard in a job, been pretty much faultless since his senseless dropping on the opening day.

Hope Kamara isn't too badly injured.

Awful game, much needed win.

Gerrard buggering off would be nice.

Don’t worry, I’m sure it’ll be alright now Steevie has some extra time on the training pitch with his players…..

I take it you’ve noticed we get worse every time that happens.

And to think there are people on here moaning about the live cam of the Queen's coffin being filmed live as it sat in Westminster Hall. Bring it on!

At least my pre-match beer delivered as did the curry.

I did think why are people in a queue to see a box for 24 hours. Then I thought... Why is this now a TV show.. Watching the oddballs file past...

Then I watched Villa and realised its a whole lot more entertaining.

Well we needed that win but we should have wrapped this up before half time. We hugged and puffed against a very poor team. Coutinho was a class above everyone on the pitch but we are so lacklustre in our movement and positional play.

McGinn worked extremely hard off the ball but he really slows the game down and gives it away to easily.

Thought Mings was excellent at the back.

Is that the same Coutinho who didn’t create a chance, didn’t last 90 minutes, didn’t score ?

He’s a busted flush.  We’ll never improve by starting with him.

Happy with the win as drab as it was . It was comfortable because Southampton were so awful. I'd like to see us test the opposition keeper a bit more, we don't do that anywhere  near enough under Gerrard

A win is a win. We were definitely good value for at least another goal which considering the shite we've been served up recently it's an improvement.

Watkins is absolutely dreadful though. When he has to think about what to do with the ball, he's already lost it. He's starting to remind me more and more of Flabby! The pace-less version.

Hopefully Archer is back in the upcoming matchday squads. I want to see more of him and much less of the other two.
