Hence the furore of the picture of Her Maj sitting alone while Johnson was living it up.

Interesting thread on how the issue was handled after Queen Victoria died in 1901.

There could just have been a respectful silence. St Andrews would have been 90 times more respectful than anywhere else.

People attending football matches has no effect on the constitutional set up of the country.

If I can go to work, Ads can go to the football.

Agreed!

Has Talksport been rebranded as Talk Queen? Every time I tune in, there’s no talk of sport but just another guest talking about the occasion they met the queen.

Even more reason to never tune in to it

So whilst football is cancelled its not all doom and gloom.  At least the British public can watch the Masked Dancer to ease their pain.

For what it's worth I think the earlier comments re the likely reaction of Liverpool supporters is a key factor in this decision.  Instead they should have been read the riot act to and suitably punished in the event they transgressed.

In the circumstances I don’t think Liverpool fans would have done anything bad. Seems to me that, as always just like Brexit, instead of taking a little more time to get things done properly, the powers that be took the wrong decision. Let’s hope they don’t feel that any more matches should be put off. Oh well, it’s back to Serie A for me this weekend!!

I’m glad somebody has said it. This is surely the one and only reason they were quick to cancel football. Certain teams reaction to any tributes at football games would have unwelcome headline news. And we know what certain teams north and south of the border they would be.
