The not working again immediately is standard practice.  They usually get paid over the lifetime of the remainder of their contract rather than a lump sum.  It's why you see managers disappear for quite a while after they have been punted - see also Dyche.  Sounds like he wants it all straight away and work again straight away.  Which must mean he is being lined up for Villa.  I hope not.  I have changed my mind on him.  He seems to blame everyone else but himself when things go bad.

He could always resign too. During the summer when his reputation wouldn't have been impacted and enabled the club to get in a replacement. There isn't a single player or manager in the Premier League who "needs" more money, they're all wealthy to an obscene extent, but it's incredibly rare to find one who freely passes up a wage increase from a new contract, or a pay off when they get sacked.
