Just a bit of context, games were cancelled in 1901 and 1952 for the death off the monarch (Edward had the good grace to pop off post season 1910).

It's called respect. Do you not think tens of thousands of people around the country singing GTSQ one last time would be a better tribute? No. It's not a "tribute" . It's a mark of respect. Can you not respect someone without cancelling everyone's plans for a weekend? It's not "someone". It's the Queen .

I'm in the minority but I think it's absolutely the right decision. It's called respect.
I'd imagine, as now, the Times was wall to wall North Korean style hagiography. You still haven't explained why it's disrespectful to play football. Should we all just stay in all weekend sobbing, would that make you happy? How about let those that want to attend do so, and if you don't want to, you stay home? Is that an unreasonable position?

It's the Queen .Yeah, 'someone.....who lived a life of incredible privilege and opulence by virtue of an accident of birth and in exchange for travelling the world waving at people'.She was a human being. I will respect her as such, not as something more simply to accommodate your archaic belief system.
I dont agree with our friend here but he’s expressed his opposing view in a pretty mild and polite manner, perhaps the ‘pile on’ is a bit uncalled for.
As has been said by others, the postponement is not being done as a show of respect. Rather, it's the fear of something happening that might be perceived as disrespectful. It's interesting that other sports are going ahead but not football. Makes me think that someone up top (wrongly) assumed that football fans couldn't be trusted not to cause controversy.
Nobody was halted from going to fucking work today, were they?
It's okay, mate. But your opinion is to stop EVERYONE attending. Why not just allow those that want to go to do so, and those that don't want to attend don't have to?Seems very harsh on those who have paid for travel/hotels, etc, don't you think?Apologies if I came across as arsey.
