Good old Clive, still here. The way he runs reminds me of characters in a ZX Spectrum game, like this: https://youtu.be/9GEj-kbIM8A?si=NHqWQV03GAqjM7Zq

What do we gain by paying him off? Anything in terms of SCR / PSR?

He's on £90k per week. £4.68m pa
Book value £3.25m and his contract expires next summer.

If we keep him on the books, he can leave on a Bosman, meantime hell cost us £4.68m (plus any bonuses).

Terminate his contract  - pay him 30-50% of what he's due?

Means he can find a new club

1. No transfer fee => signing on fee.
2. With our cash in his back pocket he can take a lower wage than he's on from us and still be better off.

He's off our books.
One less thing to worry about.
OK we'll take a PSR hit, but we'll take that in the next 12 months anyway.

The Gerrard experiment must be one of Villa's costliest ever mistakes... +£80m? (Gerrard compensation for getting him and firing him and his useless backroom team, Phil, Dendokar)

Who was the other good signing?

Edit to say, ahhh Digne!

What about Carlos, I'd certainly have him down as a maybe.

What's the thinking behind making him train with the U21s? Is he a bad presence, or is it to try to push him to take a wage cut and move?

Is he that bad that he couldn't do a job in a league cup match or even make up part of the 25 for the EL?

Yes, he cost us the game against Stevenage and tried his best to let Luton back into game at Villa Park too.

Didn't kamara have a hand in the Stevenage debacle too.

He was an unused sub.

One of the worst things I read on this site is ‘he will fill a gap in the squad‘

I honestly couldn’t care less about players coming in to fill gaps what is the point in a player Who is nowhere near good enough filling a gap there’s  just literally no point in it

All we’ll end up with is a load of bang average players who we’ll never be able to get rid of again because they’ll be sitting there on too much money
The whole thing is doing my head in now

Yes I’m Blowing my own trumpet
But I was right on this one

Spot on, there were a few of us calling this out, a bloke with the turning circle of a cross channel ferry. Awful signing.

Tail end of his career, over inflated price and wage, the fact he was identified as a Luiz replacement (if memory serves)… some pretty odd decision making going on around that time.

Maybe a similar player to Soucek. We also badly needed some height in the team for set pieces. Think this is a solid enough buy to partner with Kamara. He's not going to be much of a playmaker but an upgrade on Nakamba surely.

Swing and a miss on this one!
