Were the owners definitely at the game?

#AVFC boss demands that his players step up after collecting 3/12 points - "I'm all in, my staff are, but it's got to come from within the players as well."

You got the selection up front wrong, blame yourself.

Unbelievable finger pointing.

What sort of atmosphere is that sort of bollocks going to engender?

It's the witterings of a man who knows the fat lady is clearing her throat. Dean Smith was coming out with a load of bollocks by the time his time was up, and now Gerrard's doing the same.

Thanks Gerrard for ruining a 6 year olds first match. Honestly abysmal. Tactically inept

My five year olds first trip to Villa Park too 😕

My nine year old can point out The tactical errors, why can’t Gerrard? Was a long drive back north.

Thought we were ok first half, but Moyes made the right changes and we didn’t respond. Struggling to see how we beat anyone when we can’t get points against that lot.

Out thought by Moyes. A sobering thought.

Martinez 6, Cash 7, Konsa 6, Chambers 6, Digne 4, Kamara 5, Luiz 5, McGinn 4, Coutinho 4, Ings 4, Watkins 4. Subs ...Bailey at least tried to do something, Buendia I'm sure was meant to go left wing when Bailey came but didn't

Ah it was a shambles. Any decent side would have annihilated West Ham in the first half given how poor they were. They changed shape, upped it all over the pitch and were the better team second half. Fortunate winner but Bowen last season would have scored off McGinns mistake. Terrible game in truth, reminiscent of the final days of Sherwood's reign (Stoke at home comes to mind).

Speaking of Tim, he was on with Shearer at half time. Slating Moyes tactics, saying he needed to change formation and put Villa under pressure until the crowd got at the Villa players. F*ck me, he was right!

Two random observations:

1) That big carthorse that West Ham have signed up front is awful, looks about as mobile as a container ship.

2) Last 30 seconds, what the fuck was Kamara doing fucking about holding on to the ball instead of just launching it into the area?

Not particularly, Moyes is a decent manager and has far more nous than Gerrard. It was also his 6th win in a row against Villa, I think.

He needs to try something different, we need a flat back 4, 2 holding midfielders and then 3 creative players like Coutinho, Buendia and Bailey behind a lone striker. This would allow playing the 3 behind the forward to interchange and be working 1/2s off the forward or take up the space when the CF pulls wide. We have enough talent in the squad but continually lumping balls into the channels and raining crosses in to forwards who are not good in the air is asinine and he has already done this at Bournemouth, Palace and now West Ham where their big center halves can see all the play in front of them and just head balls out. The biggest knock is he watches this game after game and does not try to change it when its clearly not working. At the very least try and get to the bye line where at least you get the defenders turned.

We have a massive coaching staff and yet they do the same thing week after week surely one of them has the balls to challenge Gerrard.
