We have just sent our 4th choice centre half out in loan and one have 3 now,  and are down to 1.5 wingers (not that he uses them).  His squad management is becoming a bit Bruce.

Fancy a good Cup run this season as I doubt we'll make the top 10: come on Villa, give everyone a boost tonight!

Plus if he does go out on loan we only have 2 recognised strikers and no back up in case of injury or suspension.

I don't think for a second Gerrard is daft enough to send Archer on loan without first getting another striker in.

Is he?

Wonder what the scoop with Sanson is?

With Ings carrying an injury as well, you'd have thought he could do with being rested.

Yes. We just left ourselves with 3 centre halves.  One of which is woefully out of form.

He's obviously in the bomb squad with AEG.

This feels very much like a "papering over the cracks" 4-0 win, showing how everything is hunky-dory before a meek 2-0 defeat to West Ham at the weekend.

It beggars belief that Cam is on the bench in an early round of the League Cup against a Division 1 side. At least Smith had the courage to start him in the cup matches.

This round last year changed the whole trajectory of Cam's career. My gut feeling here is that there is only one career being considered with this team selection, and it isn't any of the players.

It's a strong side. I wouldn't play two up front, but he can't be criticised for not taking the cup seriously.

You see,  I dont get that. If we win,  it's papering over the cracks. If we lose, it's going to be absolute chaos on here.

I'm inclined to agree although I'd prefer a 2-0 tonight and a 4-0 on Sunday.  As an old aunt of mine used to say: ' wish in one hand and shit in the other and see what comes first'.

No idea but it’s fucking stupid to eliminate him and Guilbert completely. Like why the fuck wouldn’t we at least use Freddie tonight vs Ashley Young? And Sanson over McGinn? Absolutely ludicrous.

A lot of Villa fans (my self included) have long said that we want to take the cups seriously and that the league cup is most realistic for us despite the past few winners. Gerrard has done that so I'm not sure it's fair for those with that viewpoint to then criticise him for picking a strong side. And if it builds confidence in some of our starters, all the better.

I wonder if Sanson has took a knock again? He didn't make the bench at the weekend either. He hasn't picked Guilbert once has he? I can't see why he would have tonight.

I am sure Cam will get game time tonight so not bothered that he is not starting. Both Ings and Watkins have scored in the last 2 games so won't hurt to get them a goal a piece tonight.
Glad Chambers in but

Marvelous
Elghazi
Sanson
Gilbert

Might as well pay them up as there seems no way back for them
