Drinking by the Ground
« on: July 22, 2022, 07:10:28 AM »
See the Social (sorry Aston Inn) have now increased match day membership to £15 early bird for existing members and then £20 after the one week's period of grace.

The Tavern have increased up to £90 (do you get a padded seat).

£15-£20 for a whole season is not bad really. £90 is ridiclous though.

Someone on this forum mentioned a while ago that Aston Tavern charge £3 entry so £90 for 19 games is a reasonable increase considering inflation and other pressures on hospitality business.

Those venues have to maximise profit (hark at me) when they can, that area has little or no business during the close season so it's difficult to criticise.

Not for me.  I'll continue to run the gauntlet of the Zulus and drink in town.  Be interesting to see what impact Villa Live has on the Tavern/Inn once it's up and running.

It might have a positive impact in that I used to go in both but now don’t as I can’t be arsed to pay in then stand in a queue for ages, Live might alleviate a bit of that ?

Still free to enter venues about. The Villa Tavern is my preference after match and The Safe Harbour now has a lovely outside area.

We take the kids to the pitch on trinity road for a kick about and take a few beers when weather is ok. If not it’s drink in the Holte Suite which is chilled out and has plenty of room.

I'm curious about this myth that we don't drink in town. I usually go straight to Witton when arriving at New Street. Do we have large numbers of Villa fans drinking in the centre before and after a game? I know a lot of our support is North Brum but the trains back into the city are rammed after a game. I'm just interested. Is it complete bollocks on the Noses part? Obviously on derby day we would be segregated.

The myth is that we don't go there at any other time.

Every pub is full of Villa .We do the rounds of town, from Colmore Row to John Bright Street, with roads in between. Also JQ is all Villa.
