I hope Archer starts again, I want to see him against half decent Premier League opposition.

Same but I think it will be more likely to be as an impact sub again.

I'd imagine all the outfield players will get 45 minutes so it doesn't make much odds whether they start or come on at half-time.

I’m all excited for the match, both sides unbeaten in pre-season and they should give our defence a sterner test than we’ve had so far. Should also be a bit more opportunity for our creative players to show what they do.

I  think its great how our Aussie based fans have embraced the Villa on tour.  Shows how much we take the match for granted.  Not bothered one way or the other about the result tomorrow as long as they have a good work out.  Hope the likes of Goughie, Jon and Hatch have had the time of their lives out there.

Got to say I find playing teams from the same league as us in pre-season pretty underwhelming.

The advantage of playing them lot though is that it will bring a big audience and a decent fee, which is what they're going for I guess.

They're still the only set of fans that I refuse to discuss football with.

Well, them and Liverpool. Two cheeks of the same arse.

Scousers are generally the most knowledgeable football fans you can ever meet to the point they become boring bastards. They live for football. I don't.  I love the Villa the rest is bollox.

That's my opinion too. I must be in the minority cos I find most of them to be sound and easy to discuss football with.

Man Utd fans from Manchester are still twats. I detest this new trend of just calling them United. Whenever I hear that from one of them I always ask which United. Twats to a man.
My dad's mate universally replies that he's a massive City fan, then proceeds to spend the next 5 minutes or so in a monologue about the last Oxford City game he saw ... then asks them what their favourite Joey Beauchamp moment was.

It's the genuine/plastic split in both sets. A decent supporter is a decent supporter whoever they support.

Beauchamp played for Oxford United not City. Unless I've missed the point as usual.

I looked him up on Wikipedia to check the very same thing. It was United. I was then also sad to discover that he recently took his own life, aged 50.

I can't be arsed to look but didn't he do an Unsworth style maneouvre involving Swindon and Oxford?

EDIT ignore, i looked, it was west ham

I also saw this which i found particularly insensitive:

Quote
After his football career ended, Beauchamp became a professional gambler before finding work as a bookmaker. He battled with alcoholism and was convicted of drink-driving in 2009. He suffered from depression for which he sought help from the charity Sporting Chance. In 2010, Beauchamp said that his battle with drink and depression had made him consider suicide. In July 2022, following his death, a bar at Oxford Stadium was opened in honour of the footballer.
