There’s a spot in the squad for a young forward if one of them develops…Wilson is one of those, staying fit until end of season would be first aim and then sure the negotiation of the contract involved a plan of whether he is here or loaned out.  There is potential there but he needs to step up levels now that is up to him

Could be an option for Europe next season as a young homegrown..

He's the same age as Duran was when we signed him. Is he comparable? - isn't that now the benchmark?

I mean, this is purely for fattening up for FFP.  Let's not kid ourselves.

In the 2023-24 accounts, we spent £20m on the Academy.

We're going to try and recoup one way or another.

People mentioned in one of the other threads about how we need our commercial revenue to get to the level of Chelsea's, and we do. But they also make a lot from selling youth team players. We need our academy to develop players either good enough to come through to the first team (and save us millions in purchases) or good enough that we can sell for big profits. With us in the FA Youth Cup final and the younger age groups looking promising, there's signs that we're on the way to doing that.

Not really, youngsters develop at different speeds…Wilson doesn’t have the physique of Duran, few do at that age.  He needs to follow his own path, pre season with first team and then see

Was hoping it'd be a 10 year Chelsea-style contract after all the mooning over him.

He only turned 19 in January, so he'll be 21 when the 2yr deal comes to an end.
Not sure who has the option to excercise the 1 yr extension - Villa or Wilson

Anyway, we need to ensure that we don't end up in the same situation/stand-off in 2 years time. Train him hard from now until August and then integarate him into the first team - match day squad, 15 mins in Carabao Cup games?

If he's showing promise  - loan him out in Jan and review his progress next summer.

I like him as a player, but not too sure of his character - after all, he gave Rangers the run around before joining us.

You say that like it's something to be concerned about, rather than a sign of excellent character.

You'd expect nothing less from someone named Rory.

TBF, being a pro footballer is a short life and I don't blame anybody for wanting to get the best deal that they can for themselves - after all most of us would consider a job change for more money.

However, whilst I don't give a monkeys about him messing Rangers around, I take great exception to anybody who tries it on with my club.

From BBC Sport

Young Aston Villa striker Rory Wilson is attracting European interest this month.

The forward, who turned 20 on Monday, is expected to go out on loan to continue his development.

Clubs in the EFL are also keen on taking the Scotland Under-21 striker but if a move does not happen, he will continue at Villa, where he has been training with Unai Emery's senior squad on a regular basis.

However, a loan is seen as the next step for a player who joined Villa at 16 in 2022 from Rangers for £350,000 and signed his first professional contract six months later. He is yet to make a senior appearance for the club.

After protracted contract talks, last April Villa made him one of the highest earners in the academy when he signed a new deal, fending off interest from clubs including Bayer Leverkusen.

Former president of football operations Monchi, who left in September, and head of football operations Damian Vidagany oversaw the contract talks.

Vidagany has also held a constant interest in his development while Roberto Olabe, who replaced Monchi, has been impressed and views Wilson as a late developer like Ollie Watkins.

That contract came after he scored 46 goals in 52 games for club and country in 2023-24 while he also scored Villa's first ever goal in the Uefa Youth League against Young Boys.

An ankle injury kept him out for the majority of last year but he returned in September and a hat-trick against Skenderbeu in the Uefa Youth League followed in November.

Now a two-time Scotland Under-21 international, Wilson has seven goals in 11 games this season.
