Rotterdam 40 years on
« on: March 31, 2022, 09:38:07 PM »
Anybody going to Rotterdam for May 26th European Cup winners reunion?

Looking forward to re-visiting after all these years.

Should be a great trip in celebration of our greatest achievement.

There was a lot of talk in April and May 2021 about a BT Sport documentary to mark our greatest achievement. Here we are heading into May 2022 and it has all gone quiet? Not a dickybird on t'internet. Anybody know anything?

Great to hear and see the camaraderie between 4 of our legends

I'll second that BC Villain.

Those guys were part of a very close knit team. No super star egos allowed Ron made sure of that.

Recently read that their win bonus for beating Bayern Munich was just £2.5k a 1/4 of what the Germans were on.

Great to hear their memories. Legends indeed.

This is me on 26th May 1982, 20 days old. The European Cup final is on the B&W telly behind me, though I spent the rest of the match facing the telly whilst my dad kept me awake.

He turned down tickets to the final as I was expected to come a couple of weeks later than I did, and he felt it probably wasn’t the best for marital relations!

Having seen Villa win the league and then European Cup on it, my dad kept the “lucky” black & white telly up to the end of the 1990/91 season, by which point it’d become apparent that it wasn’t, in fact, the deciding factor in our fortunes.

Hopefully get to watch a European final with him again soon. :)
