I highly doubt Everton are going to get 8/9 more points this season, but I doubt it even more that we’re going to get no points from our last 6 games. There’s no way we’re going to be relegated.

You're right but the fact that we are even having this conversation with six games to go after a £100 million spend in the summer and further acquisitions in January is pretty dispiriting.

Minimum ask at the beginning of the season was a top half finish
It’s not changed for me that’s what I’m still hoping for

All this talk of a relegation fight, We are 8 points clear of the relegation zone and 5 points off the top half with a reasonable run in
I was disappointed in the last two seasons finishing positions and I’ll be disappointed this season if we finish in the bottom half I’m not going to change my expectation levels just because we changed manager

Agreed John, if we don’t there will be no excuses for finishing below clubs such as Newcastle, Crystal Palace or Brentford.

Correct, This team and the investment over the last few years there is no way we should be finishing near the relegation zones
Like you say no excuses

Win the next two as we should and the table looks a whole lot more positive.

Yep - Saturday is massive. Get the win that we absolutely should get, and we're over the line. We can then relax, give the kids a bit more game-time, and hopefully play with a bit more freedom and flair than we have been doing. It could make for an enjoyable end to the season which, I think it's fair to say, the fans probably deserve given how miserable a lot of this season has been.

On a personal level, I'm bringing my four-year-old to his first match on Saturday, so it is the biggest game of the season for me! My first game was aged four, at home to Norwich in 1990. Arguably, we haven't been as good since that day, so I'm hoping my son can help us reset the clock!

Hope he has a great day boozey. Taking your children to their first match is always a great occasion.

Wish we were playing Burnley at home first. They've won their last three at Turf Moor and have that collective fighting spirit that we...possibly don't. Whoever wins the first game will begin the return match with confidence.

Thanks Risso. I think I'm more excited than he is at the moment, but I'm hoping he gets bitten by the bug when Coutinho puts us 4-0 up...

I started taking my two oldest kids in the Lambert/Sherwood era. I remember my son saying in all seriousness "Dad, do Aston Villa ever score goals?" Think it was during that run at the start of the 14/15 season.

My sons first game was around his 5th birthday in 2015. We lost 0-1 to a last minute Swansea goal, awful game….he somehow still got the bug, despite this and the terrible 2015-16 season.
Hope your sons first game is a lot more positive result and performance wise.
Your right though, this is a massive game for Gerrard and this team. Smith will have his team up for a last stand and won’t want to lose at VP. Gerrard really needs a good day here.

Mine was Dean Smith's final game. Not the greatest choice in hindsight.

Look where we were after beating Leeds:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59736886

15 points clear of Burnley.

More importantly we were just 7 points off Wolves with a game in hand and even West Ham were still within reach.

Since then Wolves have lost to Leeds, Newcastle and Burnley and yet are still 12 points clear, simply not good enough at all.

Win the next two as we should and the table looks a whole lot more positive.

Lose the next two and the table looks a whole lot more negative.

Saturday is a huge game. It's a game most of us will expect Villa to win, its against a former manager that some of us feel we binned when there was no need, and its at home. They will be up for it for obvious reasons, we should be up for it for the same reasons.

That should be the singular and only focus for the team this week. There can be no excuses.
