I have to say I’m disappointed that Gerrard has kept both McGinn and Luiz in the side today. Good to see Ings in the line up but the midfield needed a change. They better perform or we will see much the same again. Sanson has to be furious

You can’t have press conferences telling us he remembers Sanson as a Marseille player and knows his quality. That he sat down with him to have a chat etc etc and then come line up time he once again misses out for both very ineffective incumbent midfielders.
Sanson furious behaviour got him in trouble and hasnt beeen selected to play since! Lost the trust of Gerrard and his petulance has cost him

I understood that and maybe should have been more open to reading in between the lines of SG as well as that he doesn't stand for such behaviour

If they are really insisting that Luiz is the main man of our midfield, starting regardless of performance, then why is he entering the last 12 months of his contract. Mixed messages as always from the Club.

No Konsa on the bench. How many games is he banned for?

He's suspended.

Sorry I didn't read your post properly. Doh.

No worries - pre-match nerves kicking in. I'm confident of a 3-0 home win (Ings, Mings and Chambers).

Very disappointed with that midfield. Doesn't say much for Gerrard's opinion of players like Sanson who I think more than deserves a chance.

Happy to be proved wrong though.

Problem is, we're looking for a solution that personnel wise we simply don't have. Other than Chambers into DM maybe, what's the possible change? For me i hope the 'change' is more positional - while it might be less easy on the eye and attacking, I'd like to see a much more disciplined McGinn and Luiz today, playing as a double pivot DMs, with JJ in front, rather than the flat 3 that has looked so so fragile defending recently.

I think Ings was an obvious change and suspect that front three will link up together really well. Looking forward to see them play.

Changes you say Stevìe? 🤷‍♂️

Line-up suggests he's leaning more towards things being hunky dory.

Was going to watch, now not so keen. Bed time I reckon.

Up the Villa and hopefully 3 points!

So Ings for Watkins is the only thing to put right from Newcastle. Must say I thought I saw more to change.

Hope I am proved wrong but that is straight out of MON playbook.

I get the frustration but I think it is decent management, basically saying to SJM/Luiz that you got us into this mess, you get us out.  This is your last chance.

Once they’re dropped they can’t put things right.

I have an '"honest" assessment and write up all ready to go if Gerrard doesn't get a performance as I concerned for how his dealing with things , the players and the team and our ways with his lack of flexibility in system. I've observation on few of his ways he's communicating and wanting to assert his control.
After his week of being "honest" with the players let's see what he can do

Disappointing line up but even so this team should be more than good enough to beat Watford, so go and prove me right Villa.

They can when it comes round to their next opportunity. Now they've just learned that they can do what they want. It's always been the villa way

I thought he might bottle it. He was already rowing back in his presser yesterday that maybe a reason for the midfield being shit at Newcastle was cos they were knackered from the Leeds game. So why didn't you change things up for Newcastle then, you dick?

Sorry, we all love McGinn but he's teachers pet under every manager. That's no good when his performances are wank.
