What a day and what a come-back.

Early kick-off (2:30?) because of the coal strike. I think Saltley Gates was the same week.

We played a total of 92 games in Division 3, this was the best one.

1. Villa 3 Bournemouth 0
2. Notts C 0 Villa 3
3. Villa 5 Torquay 1

I was at that game. Bournemouth had some very high quality strikers for a small third division club. Ted MacDougall, who scored their goal, and also Phil Boyer. Both were sold eventually and went on to play in the top division.

Wow Towser, what a game to start with. Must have been overwhelming with that atmosphere.
My first was Villa v Oldham in 1975, again an amazing atmosphere although not on the level of the Bournemouth game.
