Weekends of 29th Jan & 5th Feb
« on: January 20, 2022, 02:14:38 PM »
Apologies if this is being discussed elsewhere but does anyone know why we aren't taking advantage of these free weekends to play our covid-postponed games. Both Burnley and Leeds are out of the FA Cup as well so surely it makes perfect sense to pick up one of the two postponements that weekend?

I see that no Prem fixtures at all have been rearranged for either of those two weekends, which in the circumstances seems most strange

I don't know but I would guess that the TV rights for the FA Cup guarantee the rights holders that there will be no competing Premier League matches.

Premier League has confirmed there will be no games on the winter break weekend of the 29th. Would expect us to be playing Burnley on FA cup weekend, although we could play Leeds, as they've got more games to catch up.

Then just play the games at 3 pm Sat with no live cameras present?

No idea why The Prem are sticking in the mud about 29 Jan. Surely we need in the circumstances to be jettisoning the notion of a winter break.

We would be missing both Emi’s, Phil and Doug as they would be away on international duty.

We're due to play Leeds in the return game soon too, aren't we? I don't like playing teams in quick succession, they work each other out (i.e Manyeeew). Save Leeds for FA Cup 5th Round/QF weekend later in't season.

There are 6 Premier league clubs knocked out of the cup, Arsenal, Newcastle, Villa, Leeds, Burnley and Watford. Arsenal and Newcastle postponed games are all against teams, still in the cup. The Premier League have said no games are to be played on weekend of 29 January.

So on 5 Feb it would make sense for us to play Leeds and Burnley to play Watford, otherwise if we played Burnley, it would mean Leeds and Watford would have no match.

Unfortunate that the Leeds games would be only 4 days apart, but that sort of thing happened all the time, in the good old days!

Burnley v Watford is now on 5th Feb so that rules the Burnley game out for then.

Doubt Leeds v Villa would be 5th Feb as that would mean playing them twice in 5 days.

Yes, but why not play the Leeds away game then? Would be ideal surely?

Amazon retain the rights to the Leeds away game. However, there is a slot at 5.30PM on the 5th Feb which doesn't clash with any live FA Cup games, so it could be placed there. This is far too sensible to actually happen though.

We're not playing them back to back! We'll lose and draw like last week with the Plastics.

What's happened to the heady optimism created by Digne, Coutinho, Martinez's 5 year contract?

We're not scared of Leeds are we?

Yeah, but they're awkward cnuts and we struggle for results against them.
