Just about to leave Chateau Martin when I started getting texts - I bet the Burnley lot are a bit pissed about it because they were probably here by then.
That's it - no more football till next year I reckon.

Less than five hours to go and the match still hasn't been called off!

  ;D ;D ;D
don't worry - it'll get called off about 1pm.

Any tips for tonight’s lottery?

It's disappointing that it has been left so late. People travel from all over the country to support Villa (and other clubs). Why wasn't this done yesterday? The Burnley fans won't be happy. The club should re-imburse fans (including the Burnley fans) travelling long distances. They won't be so lax again.
Tbf the clubs have done all they can, but the premier league !?

This is a farce. Premier League should have knocked all games on the head on Thursday.

Caught a train up to Brum from Llanelli at 7.20 this morning for the game.

Now heading back.

FFS make it mandatory for players to get vaccinated and then play the game regardless of positive tests. Premier League need to sort this out.

100% this. I heard yesterday that 25% of premier league players haven't been vaccinated. I know some players are a bit thick but that's ridiculous.

Who actually makes the decision to pull a fixture? I ask because Villa as a club are normally pretty considerate of their fans.
The Premier League at the request of the club, The Club are massively at fault here.

Will be interesting to see timeline of results, request to cancel etc. (Not that we ever will)
I think a certain amount of new cases, from swabs done this morning might make the timing unavoidable.

Makes you wonder if the PL have been politically leaned on to call them off because all of them postponed seems a bit iffy. edit. Sorry missed Arsenal.

Exactly this. It’s not as if everyone doesn’t know what’s coming. Ridiculous leaving it til two hours before kick off.

Just arrived in Aston. 3.5 Hours to see game off. FFS
Fell so sorry for you Richard, I was over halfway here when I found out and I live much closer than you. Safe journey back.Abdolute shit show from our so-called 'well run' club. They send out countless communications about illegal domestic Covid passports, yet not one single email or text notifying of the postponement.

Anyone up for a class action to claim compensation on travelling expenses?

A Premier League statement said: "After reviewing all the new information provided by Aston Villa this morning and receiving separate medical advice, the [Premier League] Board approved the request as a result of the club not having enough players to field a team. This decision was based on the number of Covid-19 cases, injuries and illness."

(From BBC).

So wondering when villa passed on presumably new positive results…

Thankfully my son called me just as I was leaving the house to say it was off so I haven’t been inconvenienced, but I feel for all the fans of both clubs who’ve had to travel at great expense for nothing.
Think football needs to be knocked on the head for a couple of weeks at least now.
