As ever this season no idea what to expect when team is announced at 2pm.

Generally new managers like to throw a curveball selection in their first game to give some hope to players on the fringes, perhaps Carney may get a start if Luiz isn't back?

Gerrard confirmed Sanson picked up yet another knock during the break (walking Disney land was clearly too much for the porcelain man) and Luiz isn't quite ready. Leaves us still short in midfield.

Back 4 and Emi pick themselves.

I think he'll go with a narrow front 3 of Watkins, Ings and Buendia.

Central mid, McGinn, Ramsey pick themselves. If Nakamba is out, then I wonder if we might see another young player in there, maybe the lad we picked up from Albion in the summer.

do you get the feeling that Sanson does not want to play for us and therefore it is any excuse not to be picked?

Hoping that Steve gets his Villa Management career off to a winning start but think it will be a draw 1-1

Struggling to see a combative midfield from those available.

Bissouma and Lallana are better than most midfield pairings we could put out tomorrow.

Same here, Luiz although in my book a tad overated is the most reliable we have, it just proves that we badly misjudged last trading period. Many say Smith had no role in transfers, if not I would like to know the name of the idiot that made that call, I would like him sacked.

It has been stated enough times that the triumvirate including Smith decided transfers.
Pretty sure it will be the same with SG.
