At the end of the match at Southampton a good proportion of the crowd stayed to applaud the team and chant Deano.

They didn't at the end of the Wolves match. I haven't seen VP that empty with 5 minutes left to play for years.

West Ham?

No idea. I'd left well before the end.

…..but those who did stay applauded the team off, appreciating the way they played when down to 10.

I stayed and didn't clap that absolute shambles.

I was equally there till the end at Southampton and there was no signing for Smith. The last chant was a very weak effort in the last 10 mins. Everybody knew by then he was a goner.

Maybe try & remember this is the appreciation thread?
Theres been an absolute plethora of places to criticise him here for weeks so it’s not needed here.

We came across each other at the right time. We were never getting out of that division under Bruce and might indeed have been heading the other way until Dean came along. And for the first time in almost 7 or 8 years we began to have some memory matches culminating in our now being back where we belong. But as much as I hate to admit, it all began to unravel once Grealish got out as soon as he could, and along with injuries, it was a struggle ever since. So I hope the greedy little c**t feels some modicum of guilt as he watches a good decent guy lose his job and 'his' team struggle. But I guess modelling shit gear for a shit clothing brand is all that's important now. Whoever gets Dean Smith is getting a good'un. Thanks for those memories Dean and good luck you.

We are all VTID ..  fuck money...fuck plastic medals won at other teams. Fuck standing in front on an half empty man citeh end instead of being stood in front of a packed holte end.fuck being in front of plastic fans who dont give a shit where you came from. Dont give a shit that you fucked over the best manager we have had in recent years. But this is the best bit  ..Villa fans never forget. We never forget the heroes and we never forget the arseholes.

Thing is, Joe was the heartbeat of the team, we were always going to have an adjustment period whenever he decided to do modelling. It's never as simple as just swapping players in and out. I can't believe Villa dropped Smith so easily. We didn't give him the chance to even begin turning it around.

I've been going to the Villa since 1988.  I'd say 5 of my top 10 moments have been in the last 3 years under Smith.  He will always be held in high regard and will always have a special place in the history of our club.

Promotion. Rotherham away. That win against Liverpool. Developing a lot of players, improving the squad. Bringing us back to where we should be.

Being a thoroughly decent bloke, doing it all with his dad being ill and then passing away.

He held his dignity throughout. And that statement sums him up.

I hope he goes on to have a great career, and maybe, maybe, one day he'll be back.

How has Grealish shat on the Villa? If Smith can't manage, effectively, a side without him in it despite having spent a fortune it's not Grealishs' fault. Smith failed because of his own lack of nous in the end, not because Jack couldn't be forced to play for us forver.
