Safe standing
« on: September 22, 2021, 12:48:05 PM »
Licensed standing areas are to be trialled in the Premier League and Championship from 1st January. Not sure how that all works and how quickly clubs can allocate zones for it, and put together those sections given there are season ticket holders but it’s encouraging that this is being given a chance. It works in Germany and done right can work in England

Don't Wolves and Man U already have rail seating fitted?

I suspect they'll be the club's who benefit this season.

A few clubs installed rail seats this summer in anticipation of this announcement. Chelsea are another.

Didn’t we? I thought we were one of the biggest advocates for this. Or is my memory not what it once was?

That was a few years ago now. We haven’t installed any rail seats yet.

Just speculating here, but if we were planning on doing some major ground redevelopment, it might make more sense to do it then rather than straight away.

That makes sense. Rail seating in the Holte End can only ever be used as one person to one seat because of load bearing in the structure and the number of exits, toilets, & the space in the concourse.
The Witton End was originally a terrace so has no issues with load bearing but in modern terms the exits and concourses are probably too tight to increase capacity.
Any rail seating installations would be a temporary measure pending the rebuilding of stands in order too take full advantage of the ability to increase capacity.

My original question in the FGC all those years ago was whether any North stand rebuild should have contingency for safe standing. This is exactly what Spurs have done in their rebuild. I’d imagine it’ll be a factor in moving along the plans for our North Stand to get our standing area in place. For these reasons, we are looking a a weird prospect of The Witton End potentially being the main home end, as my dad says it was in his day!

A big issue for the club currently is that we are in a ST sell out position and they will have to negotiate with ST holders in any areas where they would like to install standing areas. I am guessing some swaps would be possible, but there’s a fair bit to work out.

If we dont have rail seats,  people will just continue to stand as they do.

Lower north,  lower holte,  1/3 of the upper holte.
