Villa Park - when to redevelop?
« on: August 14, 2021, 06:44:55 PM »
Might seem an odd time to start this thread but I've just seen Leicester's plans for the crisp bowl, announced this week (which looks pretty impressive to be fair).

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11712/12379911/leicester-city-unveil-king-power-stadium-redevelopment-plans

That'll bring their capacity pretty close to VP which is madness. Covid-aside we've been consistently selling out VP for a few years now and with a waiting list larger than the Sty's capacity for me we need to just crack on with it.

Thoughts?

We truly are at a crossroads now aren't we. We were in a three-year renaissance led by the new owners, Deano and he who shall not be named. Judas as thrown a right spanner in the works in terms of getting us to where we should be -and after today I think we need to invest on the pitch before we can invest in a New North Stand etc.

Take down the Grealish/Smith banner on the North Stand and bulldoze the whole thing while you're at it.

The banner went the day after Jack left.

While we are taking the ground into the twenty first century we should buy from the city the matchday use of a strip of land around Aston Park to bring traffic directly on and off the Expressway.  Not only a fine stadium but a user friendly one.  Friendly to the fans, friendly to the local residents.

When we redevelop we need more wheelchair spaces.  There are  only 4 available on a game by game basis, and these sell out in the first hour on sale.  TC is about 30th on the waiting list for a season ticket, and the very nice disability access officer I spoke to said she may be lucky for the 23/24 season!  He said even if she became a member there's every chance she wouldn't get to a game all season.

Yep, that's frankly unacceptable isn't it.

Shit I didn't realise that. Is this the standard sort of availability across the league? Doesn't make it any better if it is.

Looks a bit better when you look at actual seats. But was still surprised by how small the provision is compared with other clubs. Significantly fewer than even Watford, Everton, and Palace, which are old grounds.

They've created 13 new spaces for away fans which have freed up 8 spaces for home fans - the first 8 people on the waiting list.

I'd rather a defensive midfielder.

Surely we can have one and the extra disabled seating.
