What a day

Wow what a day yesterday was, can't ever remember the Sports Arena being so busy. Talk about spoilt for choice, The Open, The British Grand Prix, The Tour De France, T20 International and a Bears match to boot. A sport fans perfect day, then next weekend, it's the start of the Olympics and the Lions first test match, but most important of all Villa are playing Stoke.

I might keep an eye on the road cycling in the Olympics, but that's about it.

Personally I think things like synchronised swimming, diving, eventing and gymnastics add something to the olympics and it would be a shame to remove them (and I assume they cover most of the events you dislike being included).

I'm assuming that your definition is that it shouldn't be included if there's a need for subjective opinions to decide placings and, if so, I do understand the point but personally I'd love the olympics to embrace all the quirky and bizarre sports that are out there. If I were to remove anything it would be the sports where the competitors don't view an olympic gold as the pinnacle of their career, things like Tennis and Football where it's more of a distraction than anything.

I think that the two sports that I was most unsure about were boxing and ski-jumping

I'm willing to concede on 'anything with a horse' and Boxing is covered by my 'not the pinnacle' thing (although personally I prefer the structure of amateur/olympic boxing to the clusterfuck that is the professional sport).

I love things like gymnastics and ski-jumping though, I'd go so far as to say rhythmic gymnastics is my biggest guilty pleasure in the entire thing. It's stupid and largely pointless but I just enjoy watching them piddling about dancing with a ball or a ribbon. I also think there's an incredible amount of training and skill involved and I do enjoy watching people making complicated stuff look very easy.

To eliminate the subjectivity boxing should be included on the proviso that they have to continue fighting until one of them is unconscious.

Absolutely, she was probably the best thing about the 2016 games, she was incredible. She is primarily who I was thinking of when I mentioned people making things look easy. Like Usain Bolt sometimes you have to just admire an athlete who is so far out in front of their competitors that they might as well be doing a different sport.
