Interesting/depressing article but please don't ever quote it.

The rules are crap but this is what happens when we overpay players

We just cannot continually give players contracts of over £100k a week , when they are just sitting on the subs bench

Yep, we should be paying everyone 10k a week and be battling for promotion into the Championship.

The system's rigged.

UEFA fined us about £10m for "transgressing" their wank rules, yet the tossers at the Prem/FA have only hit Cheatski with a £10.75m fine for blowing £47m on secret payments.

So, we're playing against a loaded deck.

But the money we've blown on Disasi, Elliott and Guessand makes you question how savvy we are in the transfer market.

Having said that, if Chelsea, C115ty, Scum or Liverpool buy a dud (or several duds) they can just go out and sign more £50m players. We've only ever signed one - Onana.

It just shows how important Chumps League is. Our money this year from the Europa compared to the Chumps has taken a c.£30m hit just in terms of prize money and gate receipts, and you can probably add another £10-15m uplift from sponsorship uplifts. Although I guess our wage bill would most likely have increased through performance clauses in player contracts kicking in.

All this PSR/FER bollocks begs the question - if you can't make Chumps League, are you better off not going into the Europa or Conference given that they're not that profitable but bring with then all of UEFA's restrictions, sanctions and fines?

Doesn't this mean we have had our best year of profit ever... in a season in which we aren't allowed to spend money because of the UEFA penalty we have from last year?

Possibly an impossible question, but how many more seasons do we face this kerfuffle until our income naturally balances with costs.

I reckon our wages should remain stable (currently 6th) so how much more income do we need to generate, assuming regular Europa level income, to hit the various % etc?

We have to qualify for CL every season for years on end and if we don’t manage that, also avoid Europa or Conference football so that we don’t fall foul of EUFA rules in the interim of not playing in the CL.

Continual Champs league would mean we’d be OK I think but we need to expand commercial income to really move forward. Just getting that to £200m would be a game changer. I think Heck for all his faults nailed it when he said to be a sustainable Chanps League club you need a turnover of about £500m per season. This means you can invest in your squad and pay the appropriate wages.

The next stage of the development may need to be funded by selling Rogers. Like Grealish before him it may be the thing that gives us the breathing room to start solidifying ourselves in the top 5 or 6.

I fear Rogers will be sold this summer regardless of CL football, modern football is crap.

What is our current income versus the £200m target (sorry to be lazy)?  The extra seats and the warehouse may generate about £10m each season (+6k per game @ £50/ticket * 25 matches and a a shed load of beers in the warehouse).

I do feel we need to utilise the youth system better, so there are fewer reserves on £100k week.  Bogarde has been POTY from an accountancy perspective, covers two positions and probably on £30-50k a week.  A few more like that are needed.

Clubs would be nuts to base their business strategy on CL football imo.  The extra £40m, or whatever, should be a bonus not already spent.

But if you aren't spending that sort of money on a regular basis your players will leave for clubs that will. The rules are designed to fuck us over in every way.
