... it works very effectively and is the cost of keeping the arsehole clubs from running off to their super league.
I agree with the logic of having the 85% compared with UEFA's 70% but the unintended consequences still make it difficult to execute in practice. The Premier League claims that "the 85% rule will 'allow clubs that do not regularly participate in European competitions to have sufficient headroom to compete for qualification', but - as we found out - once you're there unless the team is in the Chumps League it is very hard to make it work (because the revenues from the Europa and Conference are insufficient, relatively).
CD's idea of applying the 85% to newly-promoted clubs has some legs (although they, of course, get a massive cash injection anyway from having come up from the 2nd tier). Maybe it should be 70% across the whole Premier League and - if it wants to make Europe-qualification more competitive - award more money than currently to the lower-placed clubs (with the logic that the top-placed 7-8 clubs get Euro-rewards in the following season).
And, as if by magic, today sees an article about improving the Europa League rewards.

Presumably the plan is to gradually bring the 85% closer to the 70% in time.
The Premier League doesn't seem keen; see my longer post above

Clubs should have a pretty decent handle on what their income will be regardless of the competitions they qualify for.

Maybe any % missed gets knocked off a future season’s ratio so clubs have XX months to sort it out.

So it basically  means you win the booby prize if you qualify for Europe

So if your someone like leeds you can spend a fortune to qualify for europe then when you qualify you have to sell a majority  of your squad  ti comply with uefa rules as the wage rule is lower.

God this is so stupid its unbelievable

Stupid is what it isn't, it works very effectively and is the cost of keeping the arsehole clubs from running off to their super league.

Agreed. Part of me wishes those shit clubs fucked off  and when it flops they come back with tail betwèen legs. We would have had  a chance  at trophies  if they left at least 😂

I agree, see how much fun their fans would have with long away days every other week and getting treated like cattle. They'd soon tire of having no rivalries. A European super league is a terrible idea, the current version of the ''Champions'' League is as good as it gets. Premier League are in cahoots with them because they're too stupid to see they need the rest of us as much as we need them.

Exactly.  You wouldnt have ties like everton vs liverpool. Utd vs leeds villa vs utd

How fun it would be trying to banter with real madrid fans for example who wouldnt understand the language just like we wouldnt  understand  theirs.

Add the fact as you say the cost for fans traveling  europe every week. It would be dead very quickly

If there's going to be reduced levels of banter I'd like to volunteer myself as an enthusiastic participant in this super league of football monsters.

The super league isn’t being made for the match going fan - it’s for the tv viewer or the overseas markets. Lots of European leagues have pretty low away fan contingents so it would be less impactful for them from a cultural perspective as well. if that’s the thing that people think would kill the super league then I think they’d be disappointed.

If clubs fucked off to a super league and left their domestic leagues what would kill it is loads of 'big' clubs would finish in the bottom half. It's why they'll never have the balls to just go and do it on their own. They want it as well as their domestic competitions as they want SL money to dominate domestically.

Best way to ensure it never happens is collusion. Every association in the world says if you go to a super league you're out of every domestic competition. And if you want to return, you start at the lowest level of regional football in your country.
