I don't mind it, tbf. Though I think the 85% should only apply to teams who have been promoted in last couple of seasons so that they have a chance to spend money to give themselves a chance of competing like we did. It doesn't benefit the league if you have the three newly-promoted clubs all effectively relegated by Easter as happened in the last two seasons (admittedly, they're doing better this season, Burnley excepted).

Problem though is what if you're at 85% or even more and quallify for Europe. We nearly did the year we were back up.

That's a problem UEFA needs to address. punishing a team for daring to qualify for Europe earlier than planned is fucking ridiculous (and is pretty much exactly what happened to us).

So it basically  means you win the booby prize if you qualify for Europe

So if your someone like leeds you can spend a fortune to qualify for europe then when you qualify you have to sell a majority  of your squad  ti comply with uefa rules as the wage rule is lower.

God this is so stupid its unbelievable

Stupid is what it isn't, it works very effectively and is the cost of keeping the arsehole clubs from running off to their super league.

Did he play well?
I didn’t think their fans had taken to him, is he starting to turn it around?

I agree with the logic of having the 85% compared with UEFA's 70% but the unintended consequences still make it difficult to execute in practice. The Premier League claims that "the 85% rule will 'allow clubs that do not regularly participate in European competitions to have sufficient headroom to compete for qualification', but - as we found out - once you're there unless the team is in the Chumps League it is very hard to make it work (because the revenues from the Europa and Conference are insufficient, relatively).
CD's idea of applying the 85% to newly-promoted clubs has some legs (although they, of course, get a massive cash injection anyway from having come up from the 2nd tier). Maybe it should be 70% across the whole Premier League and - if it wants to make Europe-qualification more competitive - award more money than currently to the lower-placed clubs (with the logic that the top-placed 7-8 clubs get Euro-rewards in the following season).

JJ's best games for them have been against PSG and Barcelona in the CL. Our boy saves it for the elite, fuck Stoke away on any night of the week.

Presumably the plan is to gradually bring the 85% closer to the 70% in time.
