I don't know why we're worried about all this SCR stuff then. You appear to have comprehensively proved that it's not an issue. You should email the club.

I think to really crack the PSR/SCR game the stars have to align perfectly and that’s the really frustrating part. You have to get all of your player buys and sales totally right, you have to have a stadium and commercial operation that brings in non-football related income, and you probably have to have a generational talent as a manager. And that’s just to get a foot in the door, potentially.

Villa and Newcastle have jemmied open the door a bit, we just need to keep up the leverage. 1 to 2 more seasons will see us on a par with Chelsea imv.

Ground is going to 50k
Commercial operation is getting into gear
Generational manager talent ✅

We just need a trophy to show for our efforts over the last 5 or 6 years.

I reckon we would need to be qualifying for the CL every year for another ten seasons and win some stuff to be getting anywhere near them wrt income etc. They made their bones when there were no spending or borrowing restrictions after all.

Personally I think quicker as they’re “only” €150m ahead of us but that is as you said predicated on us being in the CL for 2 to 3 seasons back to back.

^^ I don’t think it’s that stark Stu. A few months ago (albeit working from out of date figures) people on here were going on about Spurs and Chelsea having three times our turnover. In 24/25, none of the Sky 6 had double ours, and we brought in about 70/80% of the lowest of the abominable 6 (Chelsea).

How high a percentage do you need to compete with them, bearing in mind we’re above all but two of them in the league as we speak?

I’ve absolutely no idea, isn’t their commercial revenue huge? I know they broke the PSR system by offering lengthy contracts before that loophole was closed. Is that what is sustaining them now? They appear to have a lot more wiggle room than we do for missing out on CL football or making poor signings.

Consecutive Champions League qualification is critical to entrenching our position - boosts our coffers, obviously, but also starves our rivals.

Hopefully, by qualifying relatively early this year, we should have more momentum with which to achieve that next year.

They won the Club World Cup for £100m. They're fine.

Of course. So we still have a way to go yet to catch them up income/revenue-wise. I’m out of my depth with this stuff, I just revert to a sort of Faragist populist viewpoint of ITS ALL A LOAD OF BOLLOCKS. It’s all I’ve got to offer lads.

^^ Yes, they are fine, no doubt. Has anyone got a percentage of the Sky 6’s turnover we need to achieve before ‘it’s a stitch up’ is no longer relevant? From a big English club in the PL anyway.

We hit €450m in 24/25. Does that make it impossible to compete with clubs who bring in €600m? €500m? €451m? Not for me. And the league table backs me up.

It doesn’t make it impossible, but it makes it much harder to sustain a challenge.

A £100m difference may not be massive in percentage terms but it makes a big difference to the fees and wages you can offer. And we'll be way behind all of them this season. And that's the issue, some of them miss the CL while we're in it and they are still ahead of us, if we miss out and we're miles behind.

Love your positivity Percy, it matches my feelings.
We are where we are with all the hurdles in our way, as our finances grow we will only strengthen (with Unai in situ).

Miles behind in terms of revenue. Still in the ‘employ 25 of the best 1% of footballers in the world’ club though. And miles in front of the vast majority of clubs in England, Europe and the world.

Yep. Sometimes I think we spend too much time looking at the 5-10 clubs above us in the 'stupid money' tables, and not the 9 gazillion around the world below us.

Where I live in Vietnam, clubs just dream of having a flat pitch :D

Bournemouth are in the club as well in being able to outspend most of the world. It's competing at a level that wins trophies that's the issue. We're firmly established as pretty much the best of the rest club in Europe thanks to Unai, making the step up from there is the challenge.

They are invariably the clubs winning trophies though.
