Ranking-based rewards can get properly fucked.

We will benefit from it this season whilst playing Europa.

It is frustrating when we are playing catch up with the likes of the former big6. However, each year of Europe for us moves us further clear of the likes of Brighton and The other mid table/top6 challengers. 5 more years of Unai leading our European campaign and we will be benefiting from these ridiculous financial rules. They will probably scrap them then.

I think the danger is that he must be frustrated with having to compete with one hand tied, will he wait another 5 years to make the break through?

The reason it feels corrupt is because clubs are limited on their financial basis based on p and l.  So their turnover directly relates to what they can spend.  And then success is judged differently and rewarded financially.

There needs to be a fairer way of doing all of these things that isn’t specifically designed to protect the status quo as that is bad for football.

And to be completely honest until Man City’s 115 charges are resolved in an adequate and fair way then any club with grievances about how the financial rules are limited are completely legitimate

The rules brought in by the authorities are entirely designed to maintain the status wuo and supported by the big teams. It’s nothing about fairness and unlikely to change anytime soon. The mid lower premier sides like it too as it protects them against ambitious clubs coming up.

It’s going to be like this every window from now on. We will need to “trade” for want of a better term, in order to bring players in. Yeh sure our revenues over time will go up but are we ever going to keep with player fee and wage inflation or catch up with those further ahead? Probably not. I would love for us to have got Gallagher, added Tammy and not have to give up on Malen. Man City just added Semenyo to an already stacked squad just because they can. It’s so frustrating to have do this now every window.

But even with the 115 charges put to one side, as they seemingly have been completely forgotten about by the Premier league and media, City must continue to strike dodgy sponsor deals as the certainly cannot be improving the bums on seats quota as it often looks like only a few games ever sell out. Quite often you see swathes of empty seats yet they are building an even bigger stadium - how does that work?

Aren't Man City about to sign a billion pound sponsorship renewal deal with Etihad because they won their APT case? I'm sure we must have associated parties that can bung us £500m.

Wasnt it muted about naming the stadium "Fortress Villa Park" as Wes Edens owns a finance company with that name?

Who would vet that to say it would not be worth £500m?

Pretty sure our owners will be working on them as we speak

We already announced an APT deal last week, not sure if it was worth all that much though, but it all helps.

It’s peanuts in the grand scheme of things but the large turnover clubs have dozens of those so we just need to replicate and with our current high profile with a decent commercial operation we should be bringing in extra revenue.

Our financial situation would have been worse last year and league position certainly was and yet we still spent some serious money on Malen, Garcia, Disasi, Rasford and Asensio. There must have been some confidence we could make the CL as much as it was a financial gamble. While not for a second do I think we will do anything like that this time around, you have to think we are looking at where we are in the league, challenging for 2 other cups, and considering how much we can go for it with one or two clever deals. Obviously moving players out helps that cause.
