**Sponsors and betting: a knot for the Premier League**
Another hot topic is the ban on main sponsors linked to betting that will come into force from the 2026-27 season in the Premier League. “I’d say that when we look for a sponsor, I always have this short and obvious story: when you look for a partner, you always look at the money—that’s obvious—the premium brand positioning, and the activation the brand can do.”
I had a look at old threads and, if news breaks of our new front of shirt sponsor in the same timeframe to that of the current one, we are looking at around March 21st to learn who they are.

I may be cynical - but this feels like our CEO just missed the sponorship target and wants to make it clear it wasnt actually his fault

I did wonder if the incoming gambling ban for front of shirt sponsors would make getting a deal to the value of the Betano one more difficult. It was suggested by someone on here (I can't remember who) that we are higher profile now, and in the event that didn't help our cause then NSWE would step in so we'd basically sponsor ourselves.

I'm not convinced that latter plan is an option, but let's see.

Yeah the PL probably missed a step - should have gone through the "warning" phase - so allow them, but on the back of shirt say "Betting may cause.."

Will the ban effect broadcasters?

I've not heard that it will, which in of itself is madness.

Perhaps worth noting following the Leicester verdict today that tomorrow marks the third anniversary of the Premier League charging Manchester City for multiple breaches of financial rules.

Probably coincidental that C115ty have limitless dosh to pay for an army of solicitors, barristers, KCs, PR wallahs and lobbyists all working hard to drag things on and on.

On this - I think the PL just need to say
"look its above our paygrade.  The idea of these rules are to keep the sport fair - but they require everyone to buy into them."

"An Oil Nation state will always have more money - so we have to stop - but we would ask the public and broadcasters to understand this is not an acquital"

Then they can carry the astriks against whatever they win for the rest of time.

It would be great if state ownership could be banned, and phased out.

That was me, I'm not guaranteeing it will happen, just pointing out that there's no reason why we couldn't, for example, get Forrtress plastered across the front of the for £40-50m a year because that sort of deal would now be seen as a fair market value for us and it would be hard for anyone to argue against it.

I can't help think that'd create a free for all as everyone stopped playing to the rules.

I think ultimately this is what will happen, as my view is clubs could take this approach if they so wish.  Just most dont as they retain a commerical perspective on things
