I think emi will.  He’s a fighter.  I thinks that’s half the battle.

Can you good people tell me of any players who have managed to perform at their very best post an ACL tear?

Here's 6, including Alan Shearer

Shearer was a different type of player after his injuries.  He was pretty pacy earlier in his career, but lost a bit of it after his injuries.  Still a top player though, just became more of a target man type.

Rotten news, had big hopes for Buendia kicking on this season and I’d have assumed he would have started on Saturday. Here’s hoping for a full and speedy recovery.

We do seem to have a stinking record for season-ending injuries recently - one every year we’ve been back in the PL?

When you start listing the names you do wonder who we’ve upset; Bunedia, Diego Carlos, Wesley, Tom Heaton, Jordan Amavi, Darren Bent, Wilfred Bouma, Martin Laursen, Carl Tiler, Luc Nilis... I mean, Heaton and Wesley we’re in one game, one half even!

Some list. As DW mentioned, Benteke too.  There's also Trezeguet.

Is it confirmed yet as an ACL injury!!

They speculated Kiera Walsh had that at the world cup about two weeks ago. She has since played in the last match!!

Fingers crossed.

Edit: Ignore - Just seen our official website. Not looking good.

Unai said 6-8 months.  There is no other knee injury I know of that would have that timetable.

Yeah, ACL's are usually 6 months. So mid-February. He seems like a determined guy so I'll think he'll put everything into rehab and be on the lower end of the timescale.

It’s a Villa player ACL, the usual recovery period doesn’t apply.

It’s not just the time to heal, though is it
It’s returning to fitness physically and mentally then playing your weight back into the team and regaining form which takes time
See Diego Carlos

Exactly, even if it's 6 months to heal from the injury, it's then usually a month of training on grass, and then a few weeks of being a sub for 5 minutes at most. I'd be amazed if we saw him much, if at all this season.

I'd include the training on grass/full training as part of the 6months.

If it is 6months I'd expect to see:
Heaving cast/strapping  removed in mid-November
Physiotherapy not long after
In the gym in early December (probably on the zero g treadmill)
Training alone on pitches around Christmas
Joining full training session in mid-late January
On the bench around valentine's day

Once we start seeing any of those things we can start to make clearer predictions. Carlos isn't a particularly good example because by the time he came back we were in no hurry to get him into the team. I reckon he could've played a lot more than he did if we weren't in a run of conceding 8 in 15 to finish the season with one of the strongest defences in the league.
