Dean going with Plan A.

Does he have anything else?

Not that I'm aware of. The definition of insanity comes to mind.

And there it is... Dean Smith reverts to type. What message does it give the players who came on and changed the Fulham game, when he switches back to a dysfunctional formation and lineup at the first opportunity?

Feel sorry for Davis and Ramsay tbh - They did enough to earn a start, and with Liverpool's twitchy backline, this match was tailor-made for Davis to rough them up a bit. As much as I love Douglas Luiz, the lad is totally out of form and we're carrying him at the minute - Shouldn't be anywhere near the starting 11 at the moment.

Feeling a lot less optimistic now - Got a feeling it's going to be a shit weekend.

Unsurprising and uninspiring selection.

Sends a message to Trez that he did well enough to start.

No Sanson in the squad.

Are you saying we're sans Sanson son?

Presumably (assuming his parentage) we're sans Sanson's son, son.

Sans Sanson's son, Sanson, son? In Comic Sans.

Fair enough but Davis must be wondering what he has to do to earn a start.

If we get the same first 70mins performance against this lot as we did against Fulham, we won't be anywhere near as lucky.

This is what frustrates the hell out of me with Smith - The team that finished the match against Fulham were night and day to what we've seen since January.... We're safe, so why not just go for it, and keep that momentum going?! Inviting Liverpool onto us is not the way to go in this one - Attack from the front.

Wanted Davis to start. Very disappointed. Can’t see us getting anything from this game but who knows. Come on Villa.

In no way condoning it but I reckon slipping some heavy laxative into Ollie's pre-match meal might be his best bet.

Nakamba and Trez in for Sanson and AEG.

So he's made 2 out of three changes. We've not had Nakamba and Luiz for a long while I don't think? Could mean Luiz getting further forward...

Could be 4-4-1-1

Are you suggesting formation, or are you Arkwright predicting the score?

Yes, yes.

Smith is rather highlighting his own limitations.

Think it will be McGinn further forward, or making forward runs more often than he usually does.

McGinn probaly getting further forward like he does for Scotland.
