Dean mentioned Engels in a positive sense a couple of times in his presser. I just wonder...

I'm surprised Engels is still with us. Dean clearly doesn't fancy him, or something has gone on there.

I liked most the bits I saw of Engels, this fixture does bring up bad memories of him being skinned by Vardy for one of Leicesters goals in the 1-4, he looked as if he was running in treacle for that one.

Worry is that Barnes has pace to burn and is bang in form. Important to have Trez on the right hand side to support Elmo, or play Elmo further forward with Konsa RB and bring in Engels. I’ve not got a good feeling about this one

Wasn't his last involvement that brain fart Vs Spurs?

I think hitting the post against Man City was probably the last thing he did for us.... Unless he played in the 4-0 at Leicester.

He scored against Spurs, one of the few headers I can remember us scoring direct from a corner in recent years, then like sexual Ealing says, had that enormous brain fart, not sure I’ve had many moments leaving villa park, feeling as low.

That’s exactly how I felt. It was the moment that sealed our relegation for me but somehow it didn’t in the end. We played some of our best football that day and still lost.

I think this is the game where our lack of formation-experimentation this season will be exposed. If we are to be without JG, we should be looking at playing differently: I'm not sure we will. I suspect we'll play either Trez or AEG wide left and hope that  it's just as normal.
It won't be. Without JG, Barkley will be even less effective.
I'd like to see Ramsey and Sanson come in for JG and Barkley, keeping it tight ad looking for the Watkins and Traore runs through the channels.

Yes. Though I heard in training Engels and Traroe had a run in. Something about being punched and a chip finish.

He's not directly replaceable obviously...

But if Grealish is out I'd go

               Martinez

Elmo Konsa Mings Targett

            Luiz McGinn

Trez      Sanson    Watkins

               Davis

Alternatively, I'd have Watkins right and Traore left.

That way we have energy, an out ball and someone who can hold it up for the others.

You'd be able to switch formation too.

Unfortunately we'd also have a centre forward who can't hit a cows arse with a banjo.

Not sure why you'd want anything other than Ollie playing as centre forward. The guy is scoring goals for fun at the moment.

Assuming no Jack pr Cash, I'd go

Martinez
Elmo - Konsa - Mings - Targett
Douglas - Nakamba
Trez - Barkley - AEG
Watkins

Traore & SJM benched, to be brought on 2nd half.
