Do they still use the magic sponge? Still remember Tony Daley getting a sponge in the face and magically recovering from a kick in the bollocks.

The mantle of the magic sponge has been taken up by primary schools in the the form of a wet paper towel.  It cures all known ailments.
From what I remember from my playing days it's not the sponge that did the trick it was the threat of it being used that got us on our feet on a freezing cold day
