Absolutely brilliant performance and one for the oldies. If Oosthuizen had putted like he normally does it might have been different. Great theatre though.

I'd been quite enjoying watching golf on TV when there were no crowds.

US spectators make it just about unwatchable

Jon Rahm withdraws from Jack's tournament in Ohio having tested positive for Covid, he was leading by 6 shots after the 3rd round.

He was forced to withdraw because he tested positive. The utterly stupid thing though is that he isn’t fully vaccinated. And he’s had months to get fully vaccinated. And the PGA rules are that if you’re not fully vaccinated you will get tested daily during the week of an event. So his reluctance/laziness/obstinance whatever it was led to him essentially missing out on the winners prize of $1.2M. He held a 6 shot lead and he literally tossed that money away.

They truly are the most obnoxious fans and ruin golf as a spectator experience.

The great summer of sport continues with the US Open starting today at Torrey Pines. Can old man Phil do it again, if you fancy a bet he's 70/1. Rahm is the favourite at 9s, Johnson, Koepka and Dechambeau all 18, McIlroy and Spieth 20, Morikawa and Thomas  22. Hatton and Casey are the best English bets at 45/1.

I've been backing Shane Lowry of late and he never fails to win me cash, as always seems to finish in top 11. Not huge amounts admittedly but usually enough to cover my outlay on other punts. He's only 33/1 on Skybet now , come in loads for what i got previously...gutted.

Well done John Rahm a superb victory, finishing with a great up and down from the bunker at the final hole for a 67, winning by one shot from Oosthuizen. First Spanish player to win the US Open, he paid a nice tribute to Seve at the end.

My money was on DeChambeau at the turn, but he had a disastrous back nine 44, which included a 7 and 8. McIlroy and Casey were the best Brits finishing joint 7th.

Only 24 days to the return of The Open, can't wait.

Viktor Hovland , a player who I reckon has a great future, won the BMW International at Munich, his first victory on the European tour, has twice won on the PGA tour. Looking forward to seeing him at the Open and also the Ryder Cup. Good performances from Englishmen Andy Sullivan and Sam Horsfield both finishing joint 5th.
