Colin Withers RIP.
21st March 1940 - 28th December 2020.

Just received the so sad news that we have lost our former goalkeeper Colin "Tiny" Withers. A superbly well built custodian with terrific close range reflexes he performed brilliantly for both Villa and Blues during his career. He made 163 League and Cup appearances for the Club and won the Supporter's Terrace Trophy award in 1966 and again in 1967. Our thoughts are with his wife Audrey and all his family at this time. Rest easy Colin and thank you for the most wonderful memories.

I remember him signing for us and keeping goal admirably in a poor period of our history. RIP.

Very sad

I remember the 1-0 win at White Hart Lane (1966?). Lew Chatterly scored the goal playing as our makeshift centre forward
Spurs threw everything at us that day but “Tiny” was unbeatable pulling off a whole string of world class saves

RIP Colin.  An abiding couple of memories are of 1) away to Fulham in the late sixties and it absolutely pissing down, we won 6-3 and the sight of Withers standing in his goal absolutely drenched to the skin.  We were behind him and at the time there was no cover at the cottage end, we were as wet as he was and it was one of those rare days when we won away and he had a fine game.

2) Away at Everton about 1966 and we were as bad as I think we ever were.  Again, we were behind the goal, we were losing 2-0 and Everton were attacking, Villa broke up the move and the ball landed up with Alan Deakin, Withers, at this time had moved up to the edge of the penalty area and shouted ' OK Al,' calling for the pass-back, Deakin, with his back to goal had no idea where Withers was and turned and smacked the ball almost as hard as he could straight into the back of the net, comical.  Almost as low as we got, so low it was almost laughable.  We lost 3-1.

Colin Withers, great servant.  Condolences to his family and friends.

Loved him, second only to Hateley. Could smell the liniment as he trotted towards the Holte  -  I was tiny, so always stood clutching the railings just to the right of the goal.

My first ever Villa hero ...My mom worked for George Edwards and they arranged for Harry Parkes to kit me out with the All green goalkeeping kit Colin used to wear ...one of the best Christmas presents ever
Was Jonny Gavin our other  keeper at that time?
RIP Colin ....you inspired me to me a keeper, unfortunately I only grew to be 5`8"and would struggle to command the area or even "touch the bar" ....... oh the days of micky Wright, Charlie Aitken, Dave Poutney, Tulip, Alan Baker, Willie Anderson ,Alan Deakin, Tony Hateley et al  .....not the greatest Villa era but it was when I got "hooked"
