Quite agree, Dave. I keep thinking 'we did well, considering/that was a good day/this or that made a difference/we were lucky' and looking more at how much we're distancing ourselves from the bottom than challenging for the top but finally I am starting to think we are quite good and Dean is getting to be quite a good manager.

I’m just the same, years of having hopes dashed mean I’m always looking for the cloud in the silver lining. It took less than 5 minutes yesterday to remind me that this is a different type of Villa team and club where the stars have aligned and we appear to have a top to bottom structure perfectly placed to keep on improving. That said I’ll be back to worrying by 5:00 pm tomorrow.

I think this applies to all Villa supporters of a certain age Chris, we are hardened to disappointment. This season somehow feels different, we’ve improved immeasurably.  Yesterday when we went down to 10 I feared we’d crumble under an intense onslaught. What a surprise I had. I now fear no one.

On the subject of the potential of this Villa team  I personally think this is the strongest  all round team we have had since the great team of the 80s. There I have said it.

Great read Dave.
Twice this season I’ve sat back and really enjoyed watching us with a belief we would win. Yesterday and the Leicester game. It’s a very strange feeling.
