I generally agree but when you inflict a teams biggest defeat for 60 years and happenvto be the reigning league champions the normal rules don't apply. It's one of the most spectacular results we'll ever see, you're allowed to be a bit of a knob for a few days after it.

Collectively we had three months to dwell on being gubbed 4-0 by Leicester in March. Two weeks to enjoy us winning comfortably and inflicting a record defeat on the reigning champions seems like fair recompense to me.

I watched the post match interview with Southgate and muttered "twat" like most did. To be honest though I think Southgate like all England managers is walking a tightrope. Initially he knew most of the England squad players from his U21 manager days. He'd already got his "England" ethos across to them. He knows less about more recent players I guess ( especially Jack ) so is starting from scratch with some of them. He's dropped England players left right and center recently for covid breaches and other "misdemeanors". My hope is that he doesn't want anyone getting above themselves and thinking they're a cert for an England shirt every game.... including Jack. Jack had his moment during covid too remember. Southgates policy it seems to me is to reprimand those that do transgress by dropping them, but allow them to be re integrated back into the fold, they're young men after all, they make mistakes. I think he doesn't want ANY player to think the shirt is his so he's not going to say after one game "Jack's performance was f***ing marvelous wasn't it! He bossed the whole game, on his debut! did you see!!!"

The media are already starting with comparisons with Gazza and do we really want that? Jack can be many times the player Gazza ever was ( or any other England player for that matter ) but for God's sake let's not get him trying to walk in Gazza's shoes.

I think there's an anecdote that Geoff Hurst following the 66 world cup casually said to Alf Ramsey something like, "see you next game boss". Ramsey replied something like "only if I pick you lad". Ouch!
If my memory serves me I think it was Hurst that told of the exchange when paying tribute to Ramsey years later.

Anyway, Rashford is the England player who needs to watch out. Southgate will be well pissed off that he's been honoured before him!

Yep. Did my quiz last night to my Liverpool mates. Littered with 7, 2 etc.

We've not had a moment like this for such a long time, we should be allowed to enjoy it. That there's another week before the next fixture makes it even better!

Knowing us we'll get hammered in that and fans of lots of clubs will take the piss, it's just the way football is.

When I was at school I used to think about all possible scores we could lose by, on my way to the match, and convince myself that if I have thought about it it won't happen. The miserable pre match nerves take over. When the match starts you forget about that and result is the result. It may be that even after the next two games we find ourselves in a different position but having lived with misery for so long no one is going to stop me from gloating...for now.  By the end of the season we will get more or less what we deserve.

A genuine question chaps but why the dislike for Southgate? I recall him being an excellent part of a superb central defence and an effective captain.
I know he pushed for a move and said that the club lacked ambition. We all want to better ourselves and professional footballers are no different; except that they make headlines in the media whereas we don’t.
If he did make those comments then surely he was only saying something that we were all thinking at the time.
I remember him having a wretched first half at Anfield when we were down 3-0 and it seemed that he had given up on us - that in itself is inexcusable and showed a lack of professionalism.
Is that what has caused the dislike or is there something more?
I don’t live near VP so the only paper gossip I used to get was all about Spurs and Arsenal etc.

God knows we've had enough to be miserable about over most of the last ten years, so no way am I going to pass up a chance to be jubilant and crow about our brilliant start.

Two years ago we were losing to Millwall and seemingly had no hope of escaping the second tier for years.

We've just spent a fortune on exciting stars and have secured the services of one of the current best players on the planet on a long term contract, we are second in the league and have just absolutely battered the League Champions.
