Grumpy old Villain.
« on: October 10, 2020, 10:21:49 AM »
I know everyone is entitled to enjoy the good moments and give some slapback for all the years of being mocked and derided, but I wish some would just enjoy the moment and stop going on about 'we told you we were big', 'Jack is worth 200m', 'Deano is better than Bielsa' 'Southgate has sex with Mount' etc.
It may be true, but its much classier if we let performances and others speak for us.
Just saying.

Can we rub their faces in it when we win the league? And when we 'Do a Villa' and win the European Cup 21/22?

You have my full blessing for that one. The end of a season is far better for gloating purposes.

Kind of agree with the original poster.  I liked how the players didn’t go over the top with celebrations after the win.  Should just take it as if we belong naturally especially when the likes of Leicester and Wolves have given it the big one in recent years (in the formers case with some justification).

Always remember M.O.N after the win at Old Trafford in 2009.

Totally downplayed the win and made it clear we should expect to win at places like that without reacting like a fourth division team who’d pulled off a shock win.

Having said that, I’ve been gesturing “7” to my neighbour for five days running now.

Agreed - we're of the same vintage, and I know that if I enjoy a win too wildly it'll get played back to me when we lose.
Being an inhabitant of Leeds country, I prefer the 'quietly understated' approach so that when they overdo it I can just smile condescendingly at them.

In the old days when football was nearly always played on a Saturday SGT used to say if you win on a Saturday you can pat yourself on the back all day on Sunday and if you lose you can sulk all day on Sunday. But whether you have won or lost on Monday you forget about Saturday's result and get yourself back to work.

I learned many years ago never to gloat, it has an awful habit of coming back to bite you on the arse, I think we refer to it as Karma these days.  I do so inwardly.

Yeah I agree. The video someone posted on here highlighted that perfectly. The Liverpool fan gloating remorselessly after United's 6-1 spanking just prior to them getting anhilated by us. Ouch!!

Yeah, ok. But, what's this about Southgate mounting Mount?

When it comes to payback nowadays it's known as Klarna.

I agree with the OP's sentiments, we shouldn't lose the run of ourselves, very early days yet.

I totally agree with this post and would just like to add that I have been banging the Grealish drum as soon as he came out of nappies and that I’ve always seen Southgate as a teacher’s pet as a player and is now someone who has unjustified self belief in his own ability as a manager.

To be fair if you don’t have a fair amount of self belief you’ll have no hope as a manager. It’s hardly a crime to have belief in yourself.

Trump has belief in himself etc etc.

Like Southgate it is unjustified.
