Watkins has to start, don’t play again until Monday night so need some competitive games.

Sending Davies on loan will allow the kids a chance as subs.

Steer, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett, Hourihane, Ramsey, McGinn, Trez, Watkins, AEG.

Think we can afford to leave Jack and Luiz on the bench. Give the two new signings a start and Ramsey a chance in midfield.

Be interesting to see how Smith approaches this.  Mostly a mix of the kids and also rans like Taylor and Angela I reckon.  Possibly Watkins and Cash will get a run out for fitness purposes.
i would think he will give a lot of the first 11 game time

I'd have thought with 6 days to the first game of the season this would be a chance for a full strength run out.

yep. We need the senior players to get as much match fitness as possible for the premier. No-brainer for me.

Ashely Preece has said this for the Villa line-up 4-3-3:
Steer; Guilbert, Engels, Hause, Taylor; Nakamba, Jacob Ramsey, McGinn; Jota, Watkins, El Ghazi.

Expected subs: Nyland, Elmohamady, Mings, Douglas Luiz, Lansbury, Grealish, Davis.

Interested to see how 'informed' he is as Preece is so called expertise and is  the Aston Villa club writer for the Birmingham Mail live .

Looking forward to the cup game and seeing Watkins in action in particular. I think Villa have to be a lot stronger line up in prep for next Monday v Sheff Utd
Then if we come through tonight can play that sort of line up Preece has said next round with a few tweaks.
Anyway I'll go 0-3 Villa win! Matches goes it straight to penalties after 90 minutes. No extra time.

We will be going much stronger than that. Fully expect starting team for monday in the majority

be interested to see if kaine kesler (right wing back) makes the squad. has been training with the first team and wasn't in the U18 or U23 matches.

Well I've stuck a tenner on Watkins having 3 shots on target at 9/1.

Sorry.

Not dreadful odds, as he's bound to play some of the game.

Should be a relatively strong team tonight I would have thought with it being our first match and not playing until next Monday. Doubt we'll see Jack starting having said that. Still our best chance of a pot this season. Go for it lads UTV

I also stuck a few quid on it earlier. Decent odds I reckon.
