You can think it ( I did too ) but in this politically correct world you can’t say it . Won’t belong before the thought police have us too so enjoy while you can.

I was thinking the same, especially Ramona, but didn't want to say.

In interest of balance our new sporting director's a bit of a handsome bugger as well.

I’m hoping we sign Brighton’s Scandinavian left back, I might get a season ticket then.

She must be a really good player. What's her name?

First game of the season for the women is against Man City.  Talk about in at the deep end!

They've got promoted. Their signings are mentioned on the BBC website. They deserve their own thread. IMO.

Agreed plus it'll make it easier for SHA to find the "arrogant Vile" thread when our ladies eviscerate theirs this season.

We seem to be showing some serious ambition with the Women's and Academy teams. Gemma Davies seems a real talent to have at the club.

The comments from Exeter City are wonderful. Good signs that we're heading in the right direction & generally going about it in the right way.

A historic day! 5 hours away so time for some recognition!
Live on TV BT Sport 2. Live Radio commentary 5 live. 230pm Kick off
Also BT sport you tube , Facebook & Twitter from 2pm.

The Opening match of the WSL season
And of course the 1st match of AVW season in the WSL

I do hope the  H & Vs take a keen interest from a footballing perspective today. It's football and it's villa so what's not to love!!

The Villains were worthy of promotion last season being undefeated!
Opening match is another story but you never know ! A disclaimer it's a ridiculous very tough match Vs Man City who have brought in world-class players to an already strong squad and will be challengers for the league.
There's excitement and optimism , however I can unfortunately and realistically only see a defeat based on the level of player Man City have, their experience and that Villa haven't played for so long.

Being honest ,there will be easier matches so just looking at performance today after villa made some astute signings.
It's also the first match competitively for over 6 months , taking the step up and new team players. So be patient as they will get better as season progresses and won't have to play Man City every week. Though hoping this is a good time to catch them! Can't measure them or woman's football on this one game today.

I'm always hoping for a Villa victory, excited to see our club compete against one of the best woman's clubs in England and delighted it's at Villa Park . Shame no fans for the historic occasion. Villa will regularly play home games at the Bescot stadium I think making us and Reading the only two to play at football league grounds having the bigger and better stadium than many in the league.
(Other clubs play at academy's or developed club sports pitches or in London clubs cases non league grounds)

The main aims for Villa women are to show themselves as an established WSL club, being competitive and becoming the top team in the Midlands . I think both are very possible and in fairness to the Birmingham Ladies lot they have been the go to team in the area.

However Villa are changing that with the quality investment and I think sooner than later overtaking our rivals in the woman's game . And rightly so!

Our great club Aston Villa have really developed the women's squad since the new owners come in and the WSL itself has really improved in quality year on year. The traditional men's clubs have now decided to grow the woman's teams.

**Please can H & V give Aston Villa of WSL our own sticky thread ? I think that would be super and to acknowledge and support the growing interest in women's football. I understand if this is predominantly Aston Villa men but I think as woman's football is only going to grow more and more popular  - i vote let's give woman's football an independent football thread!

Up the Villa
