West Ham United vs Aston Villa Match Thread NOW WITH POLL
« on: July 26, 2020, 03:00:22 PM »

A few games ago I stated that I was at peace with the prospect of relegation. Not the event itself but the future given our ownership, squad (even with the inevitable sales of some top players) and the competition we would face next season trying to get back up. To an extent that's all still true as I am confident we would bounce right back up.

But this club we all love has done it again. Like making that long putt to finish a really bad round of golf, after you said fuck this I'm never playing again, it's sucked us all back in. Raised our hopes. 7 points from 9 after a season of misery puts us on the verge of accomplishing what most of us thought was impossible after Man U beat us. Now, it will be hugely disappointing if we cannot finish it off after the immense hard work to get here. But it's Villa, and as much as they are capable of a swift kick in the bollocks, they are capable of precisely the opposite, like a soft unexpected caress across the shoulder by the girl you have always longed for, causing a stir of emotion that things after all might just be fine.

Let's do this Villa. Finish the job and we can all go into this short break in an amazing, positive, optimistic frame of mind.

I want to go for a walk but my legs are like jelly and I think wherever I go I will be found in a hedge  after few hundred yards.

Fuck it, let's just do them.  Calmly, professionally, and with a minimum of fuss.

For 90 minutes we simply must want this more than them. We have to create chances and take them and we must be resolute at the back as we have been in recent games. Stand up and be counted and not give in to anything. If things ultimately go to shit it won't be because we didn't leave everything out there. It's all in our hands now.

Arsenal's team looks pretty decent.
Pepe, Lacazette and Aubameyang up front.

Absolutely stunned that Bowen has made a Lazarus-style recovery in time for this game. 🙄

What about Evertons ?
They've made two changes.  Kean for Calvert-Lewin.
Not sure of the other.
Arsenal made 5 changes.
