One thing Kal shows is that Birmingham isn't a boxing city. He was the longest-reigning British world champion, had seven title fights and only one of them was here.

Think that's a little unfair Dave, Ok he won his title in Manchester but his first defence was at the NIA, after that i think he had to chase the cash, apart from a fight in Cardiff (Ishoda) his next 4 defences were all abroad, apart from one fight in Monte Carlo all the others were in states.
He fights at a weight that isn;t really one of the money making weights.
On his way up he fought 4 other times at NIA plus 1 in Wolverhampton.

Exactly - he couldn't get anything like the same money in his own city. Compare that with Rickie Hatton, say, or Josh Warrington.

Tyson seems to be trying  for a comeback of some sorts. Possibly a charity fight  with Holyfield .

It’s one thing looking sharp for 30 seconds on pads. Much different to being hit on the nose by another 17 stone bloke.

What’s worrying is the amount of Tyson fans ( and I am one), thinking he will be good. 15 years after he was last in a ring, and awful.

It’d be grim seeing Tyson and Holyfield again. Holyfield went on far far far too long anyway.

Yes, he’s 57 I think?

Shannon Briggs seems to be the latest name.

The amount of casuals who think he'd have a chance with just about every heavy in the world. I despair.

Probably much the same crowd that convinced themselves that McGregor had a chance against Mayweather. We live in an age where celebrity is more important than logic.

Boxing attracts some weird followers. You'll never get anyone watching a Premier League match on TV who'd think Liverpool would be crap on a parks pitch but every pub will have a self-appointed hardman who'd hammer that Joshua bloke out on the street where there's no rules.

Absolutely. Some years back, I literally read somebody argue that 50% of baseball players could be world champion "if they wanted", because "they totally throw their arms with more power".

Because, y'know, it's not like, one of the most skilled sports that relies on years of coaching, incredible reflexes and being technically correct. It's just a case of randomly swinging your arms.

The BBC boxing podcast with Costello and Bunce is really good normally. But at the moment they are reviewing “Big fights” in history.

They did Hearns Vs Leonard, whilst interviewing Leonard, which was great.
Spinks vs Tyson ( which was Randomly on a Monday night!) and Hatton vs Tszyu.

Generally one of my favourite podcasts, along with “ Clips of the Week” on Talk Sport.
