While I welcome all and any signs of improvement, I'm surprised that Dean Smith turning into John Gregory is what's sparked it.

Why?

Just being flippant, but we used to play like last night under Gregory. 5 at the back, nick something and protect it.

As much as i found some of the John Gregory years a bit turgid after GT1, Big Ron and BL i'd be more than happy with it now with similar results. The 3 centre backs and wing backs are a good idea for us, we have 5 quality centre backs and all of our full backs are better as wing backs. Get Grealish in the 'Merson' role and buy a new centre forward or 2 and hopefully we'll be a better threat up the other end. After last night we're crying out for better protection for the defenders from Centre-Mid as well mind.
