Goes without saying how vital a result is here and a performance after Saturday's horror show. They are drab and workman like, just what we need to be for a few games. Would take a nil nil.

If Mings is back, we might scrape a draw, otherwise another defeat.

What's the chances of Mings playing? Sounds a bit doubtful from the BBC preview.

Think our only chance of being organised enough to grind out a point is if he plays, could be a long afternoon if not.

I'd hope to see

Heaton
Guilbert
Hause
Engels
Mings
Luiz
Hourihane
Grealish
El Ghazy
Trez
Kodjia

Just apply the formula.

Villa player "doubtful" - will not play
Opposition player "doubtful" - will play, and will probably score.

Must admit I'm not expecting to see him out there tomorrow, no point then risking him against Fulham 3 days later.

I’ve gone for a Villa win, based on nothing other than my usual ill-informed blind optimism 👍👍 Happy New Year Villans, one and all! New year, new start, let’s turn this shit round!*

UP THE VILLA!!!

*i could still be pissed from NYE

All I know is that Jay Rodriguez will score against us.  Probably with a part of his anatomy that should be illegal or amputated, or both.  I wish I knew how to place a bet on that.

So what will be this weeks ‘inexplicable team selection from Dean Smith’ be? Dropping Kortney Hause against a team of physical battering ram style centre forwards. Can see both Elmo and Taylor playing in this one. We’ll lose it im afraid as ultimately despite them being fairly poor of late we just won’t really fancy it for the full 90.

2-1 them.

How about this I just have a feeling that a backs to the wall attitude will see us over the line, Burnley are not Liverpool and Smith will have them all fired up or fired so I'm going for 2-0 to us and a revival under way, yes I have had a couple of single malts while preparing dinner so what.

Come on Villa boys and Deano! A new year a fresh start! Let's get a result there today and start to make up for some lost points earlier in the season. UTV!

We need to try and get the first goal if possible. We can't afford for our heads to drop again.

Fair play to all those going up there, especially those who are hungover.

Burnley will be too tough, physical, strong and streetwise for us today - we're too soft, if they score first then we're done.

Over the last 4 games they've averaged 0.25 shots on target. If ever a 0-0 was likely, today is that day.

not the worst result in the world.

They've not faced Villa though, we love giving teams shots and chances.
