Tree planting at Villa Park
« on: September 24, 2019, 09:21:01 AM »
With the space available to us at Villa Park should we start by doing our bit for the Environment and get planting? I'm not interested in Politics but did see an idea by a certain political party about planting trees at Hospitals across the UK.

Maybe a tree lined Car Park at the back of the North Stand / Holte End? Whilst we're at it let's put in a Fan Zone with bars and entertainment. There's so few pubs around the stadium these days, I'm suprised the club haven't gone for it!

Can somebody bring this up at the next fan consultation? Who do we get in contact with regarding ideas?

I think this is a good idea in principle, but is a fairly small part of a larger overall question about how to make the ground and the area around it more attractive. Ultimately there needs to be a masterplan for the area which anticipates and allows for future ground expansion. If we are staying on the same site in the long term we should be thinking about how to improve the wider area to improve the match day experience, create revenue streams on non-match days, and increase the value of the clubs assets. I don't think we should be planting trees until this is in place as they will end up prejudicing future development.

I'd prefer if we were pulling up trees in the PL rather than planting them.

How about a couple of moveable ones in the goal mouth. Get them carried to the other end at half time ...

I’d be all for this. If we are going to stem the catastrophic impacts of climate change all businesses, government and people need to play their role. As a forward thinking business Villa should be playing their role and could be leading the way. The scientists have done their bit in providing/ evidence and advice and now it’s over to us.

Greening up with trees, changing the food offering for a lower climate impact, solar panels on the huge stand roofs etc. It’s all within the clubs power to do. As people become more environmentally aware these won’t be just good environment decisions but good business decisions.

Villa Park is made up of a huge amount of concrete/ cement. I looked up the stat, and concrete/ cement is a huge co2 creator at 8% of global emissions.

I think we are already doing a lot for the environment as football fans when you consider all the carbon we’re storing up in our physiques from the beer and pies.

Fat is apparently 84% carbon and when we burn it then it gets exhaled as CO2, my two-minute ‘scientific’ Google research informs me.

Mother Earth needs fans to buy pies!

Use St Andrews as a landfill site. Hopefully the mixture of household waste, filled nappies and dog shit bags would cover up the smell.

The Villa planted trees & made a nice lanscped area in Wilton Lane I believe when the houses were demolished  due to council planners  insistence when the stand was developed
