PWS introduced that meme here I believe, and like goal-flashes, he should deign whether to post it or not.

Good timing for him. Things can't really get any worse so only upside.

As an ex-imternational defender managing his country, let's hope he's more Mick McCarthy than Steve Staunton.

Always liked Mick McCarthy since the 1988 Scottish Cup Final.

"The guest of honour was British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, who attended the match in an effort to improve her dismal popularity in Scotland. Expecting a negative reaction to the sight of players shaking the prime minister's hand, the traditional receiving line was moved to a snooker room in the halls of Hampden. Even still, several staffers and players from both teams (including Mick McCarthy, the son of a Yorkshire miner) refused to meet or acknowledge Thatcher, and she was greeted by supporters of both teams by a wave of red cards. As she took her seat, thousands of supporters of both teams sang "you can stick your poll tax up your arse"

My favourite Ireland manager apart from Charlton. Have liked Mick since I had a drink with him and the Millwall squad in the early 90s in Tamangos ('where the gang goes') in Portmarnock. A sound man!

I'm one of a very tiny percentage of people who actually liked him on commentary duty. You wouldn't hear from him for ages and then he would say something blunt, no waffling. I get that's not what people want from a commentator, lots of dead air, but it suited me fine. Saves me hearing a load of bollocks.
